If I am going to elaborate how an efficient father my husband is, it’ll sound like I’m bragging about it. So what? It’s the truth anyway. Let me first describe him as a father to our daughter. A spoiler. A lawyer. Responsible. Loving. Caring. Selfless. That’s what and how he is to us. In one word, I-D-E-A-L.

I still remember during the time when I was still pregnant. I felt like I was a queen, fully served - de luxe. I used to have breakfast in bed. He used to bring the foods I like and craved for. But there’s one thing that he missed - tocino (cured pork). It wasn’t available in the Filipino stores at that time. But I was pregnant and craving for it. I kept on telling him about it. He had searched almost the whole town, in every Filipino store but it’s not found anywhere. Until one day he came home with a kilo of pork and Mama Sita’s tocino mix. I giggled and my heart was tickled. “How the h*ll did you know about it?”, I asked him. He said that he approached one Filipina in the store and told her that my wife is pregnant and craving for tocino but I can’t seem to find it in the market. The lady told him instead to get a pouch of tocino mix and a kilo of pork. In short D-I-Y. LOL! I loved the idea especially when he was the one who made it. Unfortunately, due to the weird taste bud of a typical pregnant woman, I still didn’t like it, it went wasted. But really I appreciated his gesture. It’s sweet!

And that didn’t change even after I had given birth to Deye. In fact, he’s become more responsible and sweeter. He’d sometimes come home with a dozen of chocolate drink (Deye’s fave) and 2 big packs of Dorito’s or Boy Bawang (My fave). And for him? Our smiles are enough to satisfy him. He would always treat us out every Friday. He’d come home from work @ 2am sometimes with a big tin of formula milk and pack of diapers. Each time he’d received his tips from the restaurant, he makes sure that these things are prioritized first. He even buys my-so-personal-stuff. “Buy” means he gets it for me from the shop.

Now that he’s miles away from us, we don’t feel that he is. He’s there. Always there… Same old Derrick. Same old Mahal. Same old Dada. Why the strike on his name Derrick by the way? Because same old Derrick has changed for the best!

Love you, Dada! Myah!!!
