Bacterial conjunctivitis due to the common pyogenic (pus-producing) bacteria causes marked grittiness/irritation and a stringy, opaque, grey or yellowish mucopurulent discharge (gowl, goop, “gunk”, “eye crust“, sleep, or other regional names) that may cause the lids to stick together (matting), especially after sleeping.

When she woke up yesterday morning, she’s got these yellowish discharges in her eyes. She was crying out loud saying “my eyes are ouch!”. But yesterday was a Sunday, Eye Specialist Clinics were closed. I had to find a way by just washing her eyes with warm water. Not sure if what I did was right, but at least the discharges were removed from her eyes.

I took her to an Eye Specialist today, and yes, she’s got this viral eye infection again. She also had this the first time she came to Philippines. I think it’s because of the heat, but how come she still gets it when she’s already adjusted to the weather here. When I checked online about the possible causes, here’s what I found:

The leading cause of a red, inflamed eye is virus infection. A number of different viruses can be responsible for the infection. Viral pink eye symptoms are usually associated with more of a watery discharge that is not green or yellow in color. Often, viral “cold-like” symptoms, such as sinus congestion and runny nose, are also present. The eyelids may be swollen. Sometimes looking at bright lights is painful. While viral pink eye may not require an antibiotic, those affected should see a doctor, as occasionally this form of pink eye can be associated with infection of the cornea (the clear portion of the front of the eyeball). This infection must be correctly detected and treated. Viral pink eye is highly contagious. Viral pink eye usually resolves in seven to 10 days after symptoms appear. In addition, feces particles that reach the eye are often a cause for pink eye.

She was given Tobramycin for 7 days, a drop in each eye 4x a day. I hope she gets well very soon.

Remove my hair mama? I become a “kambo” sigi!

Ooooops! Oo nga naman, why remove her hair? Hahaha!

So I said, sorry, your ponytail I meant… not your hair.

She still couldn’t believe I told her to remove her hair, she told me once again

“You said, you said remove my hair, no more hair na for Deye, wawa aku!”

Hahaha!

When I reached home, gave her a little surprise, covered her eyes and let her opened the bag. She smiled, tried it on and said “thank you mama!”.

She decided to wear it inside the house for like hours right after I gave it to her. I was watching her walk, and told my mom who was sitting beside me “Ang ganda pala sa paa nya nung slippers kahit medyo mahaba pa”. Mom agreed and said “Ikaw lang naman ang mahilig bumili ng sakto”.

Guess what my little girl said when she overheard our conversation?

She first laughed, covering her mouth like a young lady and said “Bagay ba ha Mama?“

Deye : Mama, sleep with me pleeeeeease….

Me : Okay, give me a minute. *went to bed, laid down beside her and hugged her*

Deye : Don’t “adu” me! She actually meant don’t hug her! Adu was her baby talk for “hug you”, nakasanayan na. I never corrected it coz I find it sweet haha!

Me : Okay, I’ll just sit in front of the computer then!

Deye : Adu me!!!

Trivia : She hates the fact that I sit in front of the pc not giving her much attention and do you know that most of the time that I do, she would stand behind where I am sitting, literally behind me, sometimes combing my hair, riding on my back. *sigh* I just have to give in so I’d have the chance to finish my opps.

Me : *asking my mom* Lagyan ko kaya syang diaper?”

My mom : Wag na, nagsasabi naman eh!

Me : Eh kung biglang maihi na walang CR na malapit, alangang paupuin sa gilid?

My mom : Bahala ka…. pero nagsasabi naman na, hindi yan… *my mom was consistent not to put her diaper on*

Of course I gave in to my mom’s suggestion, besides she knows better than I do. I’ve only been a mother for 2 and a half years while she’s been a mother to me for 30 something years haha!

Twice at the mall, Deye told me that she wanted to pee. Lucky us, there was a toilet just opposite where we were standing. She also told me that she wanted to pee while we were having lunch.

In short, we came home with her panty still dry. Hehe! Yey! May nabawas na sa nilalagay sa bag ko > diaper. Kaso napalitan naman ng panty nya hahaha!

I’d say she’s getting used to it already. Before she slept, my mom took her to the toilet to see if she’d make wee wee. She did and even refused to wear a diaper in her PJs. We convinced her that we’d try that later on. But after sometime, she again told me “Mama, wee wee! I want to go to bathroom” I said it’s okay you’re wearing a diaper. She listened but sat down with her diaper on hahaha! And told me “Mama, wash na!!”

I hope and wish that in another 2 weeks, she’d be totally a diaper-free baby. Is that too quick?
